What is a liquidation map?
A chart of how many leveraged positions would be liquidated at each price level above and below the current price.
A liquidation map sums the positions whose liquidation price falls into each price range. Shorts are liquidated above the price, longs below it.
Large clusters work like magnets and accelerators: if the price reaches one, forced market orders push it further, which can start a short squeeze or a long squeeze.
On most exchanges liquidation maps are estimates built from open interest and assumed leverage. On Hyperliquid every position is public, so the map can be built from real positions.
On HyperScan
The HyperScan liquidation map is built from real positions of tracked wallets and also shows whale stop-losses and take-profits.
