What is unrealized PnL?

The profit or loss of an open position at the current price, which becomes real only when the position is closed.

Unrealized PnL is the difference between the entry price and the mark price, multiplied by position size. For a long it grows when the price rises, for a short when it falls.

With cross margin unrealized profit increases the margin available to other positions, and unrealized loss reduces it, bringing liquidation closer.
