Why crypto traders watch the US market calendar
Crypto trades around the clock, but it does not move evenly. BTC moves most when the US stock market opens and US data comes out: that is when funds, ETFs and algorithms trading both stocks and crypto hit the market at once.
Over the past year BTC moved 1.5% from high to low on average in the first hour of US trading — 2.3× a typical hour (251 trading days). The market opens at 9:30 am New York time: 13:30 UTC in summer and 14:30 UTC in winter.
Macro data moves the market even more. The consumer price index (CPI) and the jobs report (NFP) come out at 8:30 am New York time, the Fed rate decision at 2:00 pm. They shape rate expectations and with them risk appetite. In the first minutes after a release, price often whips both ways, spreads widen, and stops and liquidations cascade.
The calendar does not tell you where price will go. It shows when the market usually moves more, so you can factor that into leverage, stops and entry timing.
